Ensuring the health and safety of our people

Ensuring the health and safety of our people is a core value for Cobham. As a diverse company, our employees are frequently required to work in different environments, and manage a range of risks. A significant proportion of our employees work in office or low volume assembly and testing facilities, and face health and safety issues that include ergonomics, chemicals, electrical hazards, and pressurised gases. Our more complex manufacturing operations, our field-based employees who install equipment and provide customer support, and our aircraft operations have more significant hazards to manage.

Our goal is to eliminate occupational injury and illness through our Zero Harm strategy. As well as protecting employees, our focus on health and safety improves productivity and demonstrates the value we place on our people.

We have established an Executive-led SHE steering committee which is responsible for setting policy, developing an effective management approach for pursuing our goals, agreeing annual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and monitoring our progress against them. The steering committee reports to the executive-level Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Committee and Group Executive.

See the Performance page for details of the KPIs used to measure progress in implementing our SHE systems across the Group.

Our SHE standards map to the internationally recognised management standards, OHSAS18001 for safety and health, and ISO14001 for environment. All core sites are expected to meet minimum levels of achievement against these internal standards, and we encourage them to seek external certification whenever appropriate.
