Cobham Mission Systems have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Stress Engineer at Wimborne.


The purpose of this role is to progress/support all stages of lifecycle management relating to the Mechanical Design and Stress analysis elements of product development and also the Verification of stress requirements to underwrite statement of airworthiness.


As a Senior Stress Engineer, your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Ownership of key stress deliverables to IPT’s and Product groups; technical responsibility for the quality and accuracy of stress office deliverables.
  • Ensure Analysis led Design philosophy throughout design development.
  • Stress analysis of components, structures and systems in order to develop a compliant design solution. Lead small design/stress teams when required and ensure compliance to FRL processes and procedures.
  • Liaise with IPT members and inter-departmental colleagues, and to report technical progress to Engineering and Programmes team leaders.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager with process improvements in support of continual improvement philosophy.
  • Verification of stress requirements to underwrite statement of airworthiness.
  • It is a requirement that the Candidate has a genuine interest in Engineering and the ability to work consistently, diligently and harmoniously, both as an individual and as a member of the Stress team.



As a Senior Stress Engineer, your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • Degree/HND/HNC or Equivalent in Mechanical / Aeronautical Engineering.
  • Experience within Aerospace or a related engineering industry.
  • Stress analysis experience with finite element analysis in conjunction with basic hand calculations in an aerospace environment.
  • Knowledge of MSC Patran & Nastran preferred.
  • Experience with any of the following would also be advantageous: Dynamic analysis; Vibration; Fatigue; Damage Tolerance; Non-linear analysis.
  • Conversant with Microsoft Office applications.
