A team lead position within the Design Office, responsible for the day-to-day management of assigned staff to include time/absence management and task allocation.
A senior design and certification role that will liaise with stakeholders and develop solutions to business requirements. Tasks will include working with Business Develop to explore and describe potential design solutions, to support bid activity. Following initial activity the role will be responsible to develop the initial design and certification plans and obtain agreements from stakeholders, including nominated Compliance Verification Engineers (CVE).
The role will be a technical SME in systems integration, to include Electronic Warfare, target tow, surveillance, communication and other mission systems.
The role shall oversee the product's or project’s conception, design and initial product specifications and manage initial scheduling and estimating. The project shall be handed over to a design team that will complete the design data. The PDE shall also conduct engineering studies and investigations, and prepare reports for the DO leadership and Project Managers. They also provide engineering guidance to other departments, help to train new engineers and keep abreast of industry trends and issues. Preferably having or working towards CEng or similar.
Work with customers and suppliers and integrate with Marketing, Sales and Project Management.
Development of initial design, risk reduction and initial certification plan.
Liaison with the regulatory authorities when required.
Supporting design, production and installation engineers in matters relating to projects.
Coaching and supporting design engineers and overseeing their development.
Acting as a Compliance Verification Engineer within the Design Office
Safety first. Operate at Special Mission in accordance with the SHE standards. Identify where the SHE standards are applicable to appointed operations/tasks and apply safe systems of work identified.
Provide design and certification SME support to other departments, such as Business Development
Provide initial design concepts, risk reduction strategies and initial certification plans.
Provide cost estimation.
Liaise with the Office of Airworthiness on all matters relating to the initial and continued airworthiness of design changes.
Regular liaison with internal/external manufacturing departments and suppliers to ensure any related issues are resolved and deadlines met.
Work effectively as a key member in a team environment, liaising closely with in-house colleagues.
Provide clear communication with Project Managers on the status of design programmes and ensure that problems affecting the design element are notified accordingly.
Performing Compliance Verification Engineer functions in support of the Design Office.
Degree or HND/HNC or OND/ONC in electrical engineering, or 5 years related industrial experience (this should be evidenced by the employment history on the applicant/job holder CV).
Have a clear understanding of aircraft avionic/electrical component and/or system requirements, materials and manufacturing processes.
Able to produce calculations in support of the design activity.
A working knowledge of regulatory requirements, ie EASA, CAA, MAA.
The ability to work alone or within a team environment, and as a team leader or member, playing a key role in the production of design data
A willingness and ability to travel within the UK and abroad, sometimes at short notice and extended periods may be required.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
