Cobham Aviation Services are recruiting for an Airworthiness Design Engineer (known internally as an IPT Airworthiness Lead) to be responsible to deliver the NATO JEWCS project requirement include developing airworthiness plans, technical proposals to support the certification and development of the product airworthiness and the DO tasks to provide EASA airworthiness approval for the product to be installed and operated on a Dassault Falcon 20.

 

The IPT-AL (NJEWCS) supports the HoD in the implementation of airworthiness strategy within the NJEWCS programme. The IPT-AL (NJEWCS) will lead airworthiness excellence through processes,practices and continuous improvement to improve the performance, capability and competencies of

airworthiness. Acting as a Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) as required. 

 

The business have recently been awarded a contract for the design and development of a range of operational training electronic warfare pods by the MoD on behalf of NATO. This will provide realistic training in electronic warfare to the member countries, in order to be able to operate in a real time situation.

  

This position is based at our Bournemouth International Airport site and requires occasional customer travel. You will work as a member of the design office, aligned to the NATO JEWCS program.

 

As an Airworthiness Design Engineer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • Engineering degree required (or suitable experience and demonstrated skills at the discretion of the HoD)

  • Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of business finance and ability to link financial outcomes with operational actions and business strategy

  • Deep discipline (airworthiness) domain knowledge, with experience in the application of the discipline to the entire product life cycle from inception to delivery.

  • The IPT-AL (NJEWCS) has sufficient knowledge and authority to enable them to respond to the authorities and to implement necessary improvements as:

    • Thorough knowledge of the relevant CAA/EASA/MAA Part 21 requirements and company procedures is expected;

    • Thorough knowledge of DO handbook especially the procedures relevant to the classification, compliance demonstration, certification and continued airworthiness process;

    • Prior experience as a Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE) is preferred.

      Thorough knowledge of the relevant certification specification;

As an Airworthiness Design Engineer your main responsibilities will involve:

  • The technical authority / responsible engineer for their discipline within a program, project

  • or product development
  • Form an effective partnership with project leadership
  • Accountable to the IPT Technical Lead for technical, schedule and cost performance compliance to plan

  • Discipline team focal point for the program office and customer
  • Build and maintains key customer relationships to foster trust and mutual respect

  • Enable communication and constructive collaboration and partnerships with customers and suppliers

  • Responsible for all technical aspects of their discipline within the program, accountable to the IPT Technical Lead and Discipline Head for viable technical solution.

  • Ensure the decomposition of requirements for their discipline are defined, documented, validated and verified.

  • Responsible for utilising SOF-E through the development life cycle.

  • Has full responsibility for executing the cost, schedule and technical performance of the disciplines work scope within the IPT. [Final accountability for strategic decisions lies with the Head of Design]

  • Has the authority to review and approve all work assignments, documents and commitments involving their discipline within the IPT, though it should b noted work done under EASA

  • DOA privileges must be done in accordance with the DOH. [Final accountability for strategic decisions lies with the Head of Design]

  • Ensure that the discipline team is delivering performance to plan

  • Work with the program leadership to define corrective actions in the event of performance deficiencies

  • Manage the IPT disciplines cost, schedule and technical risks

    Optimisation of “Design for X” (e.g., cost, test, assembly, reliability, environment)
