Cobham is seeking a Avionics Systems Engineer

The Avionics Systems Engineer is a subject matter expert that determines, develops and implements solutions as a participant on a multi-disciplined team. The Avionics Systems Engineer creates and organizes high level requirements into a model-based system architecture which is used to define the technical implementation of Tactical Radios, Audio Control and Management Systems, and other Connected Aircraft system capabilities. This position requires the engineer to maintain consist communications with many engineering department to develop innovative solutions in project and product capacities. The ideal candidate has an extensive working knowledge of Tactical Mission Radio systems, Audio Control and Management Systems, Connected Aircraft systems, and services. Strong architecture and systems engineering knowledge throughout the complete system development life cycle is a prerequisite. The Systems engineer or architect must be able to influence team members from multiple disciplines; especially Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Integrated Verification, Validation and Qualification (IVVQ), Product Management and Program Management. The Systems Architect employs the use of modelling of system level requirements with a good understanding of how system requirements are derived and feed into lower level requirements.

Position located in Prescott, AZ. Reports to the Systems Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
• Shown ability to develop system level designs
• Proven ability to lead development teams to develop new product designs and sustainment objectives
• Experience with the following System level activities:
o Developing System level architectures and requirement development
o Translate/create customer/industry/market requirements to system level requirements
o Allocate system level requirements into hardware and software requirements
o FMEA and safety analysis
o Timeline/latency analysis
o Creation of Interface Control Documents
o Perform trade studies
o System level verification & verification
• Experience interfacing with program and project managers and other engineering disciplines
• Manages to schedules and metrics

Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree EE, SE or CS
• 8+ years of experience in avionics development
• Experience with ARP-4754A, ARP-4761 and it relates to DO-178 development, DO-254, and DO-160
• Experience with System engineering processes and procedures including DOORS
• Design experience of tactical radios (preferred), Audio systems, LTE, and/or Com/Nav functions
• Experience with Requirement Management tools (DOORS)
• This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US. In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident


Preferred Qualifications:
• Ability to coordinate Bid and Proposals (ROMs, RFI, RFP, etc)
• Experience transitioning new products into the factory
• Experience interfacing with the factory and a Repair & Overhaul organization to support sustaining products
• Ability to create, implement, and/or modify engineering processes
• Understanding of Design-to-Cost and Design-for-Manufacturability
• RF design knowledge
• Software Defined Radio waveform definition
• Commercial encryption knowledge (AES, DES, P25, Tetra, etc)
• RTOS experience
• Able to interface with the business development team to support/create product line roadmaps
• General Avionics or helicopter pilot experience
• Knowledge of the following technologies/skills is a plus:
o Mesh radio’s, WiFi, Codec, 3G/4G LTE, touch screen displays, In-Flight Entertainment, IMA/MAU/Card file designs, and/or human factors
