Cobham is seeking a Buyer/Planner.  The production buyer/planner is responsible for planning and managing production schedules to meet customer delivery requirements and best utilize the company’s production capacity as well as managing inventory levels.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Executes standard planning and purchasing functions, including opening, releasing, splitting, completing, reviewing, and closing job orders as well as purchasing required materials utilizing ERP system internal/customer job and purchasing queues.
  • Responds to termination, cancellation, or change requests from sales; maintains alignment of job order due dates with planned delivery dates to ensure MRP accurately drives material requirements.
  • Balances inventory levels with availability of required materials and adjusts associated procurement/delivery schedules as needed to ensure materials are available to meet production schedules without the business holding excess inventory.
  • Reviews work in process material shortages from production floor and develops expedite lists when needed.
  • Releases purchase orders for production material, floor stock items and all purchased goods to support the business unit.
  • Interfaces with manufacturing personnel and other members of the buying/planning team and updates management daily on issues with material status and/or production planning.
  • Modifies production floor travelers as needed in order to align production work with realized planning.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • 7 years of experience in a production planning and materials controls function or equivalent combination of education and experience (for example, 5-7 years of broad manufacturing background).
  • Experience in lean manufacturing
  • Strong communications skills, ability to clearly communicate, both verbally and in writing to all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced or intermediate Excel skills
  • Interact with all levels of personnel to analyze and solve problems related to manufacturing and quality documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent computer savviness and appropriate technical capabilities
  • Decision making and collaboration skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and strong ability to effectively communicate and build strong relationships with suppliers
  • Problem solving and analysis skills
  • Must be a strong team player and possess strong collaboration skills in partnering with cross functional stakeholders in order to achieve objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Bachelor of Science

  • Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position, and work hours/days are as follows: M-Th: 7:00AM to 4:30PM, F: 7:00AM to 3:30PM with every other Friday off (aka 9/80 work schedule).
