CAES is seeking a “passionate learner” for a Digital/Software Engineer role that can be based in either Clearwater FL, Exeter NH or Lansdale PA.  The duties and functions will include;

Principal responsibilities:
•Write embedded software for a variety of micro-controllers; Write VHDL for FPGA designs
•C for real time control systems
•Test languages: Python, C#.Net, Tcl/Tk
•Revision control tools: either Mercurial, GIT, other; Planning tools: Jira
•Design digital HW to interface with real-time & closed-loop Electronic Warfare/ positioner subsystems
•Interface with complex integration RF subsystems and/or motion controlled positioner assemblies
•Control loop familiarity, and modeling with Matlab
•Learn and use engineering tools for new product development
•Develop microcontroller and FPGA designs for multi-board control applications
•Design and create communication interfaces between equipment and the user
•Be responsible for complete board/module designs with respect to technical details, budget, and schedule

Perform technical analysis, design, implementation, and/or test of digital hardware, micro-controllers, and FPGAs.  Work from technical objectives, overall schedules, and expected results as specified by system specifications and program schedules. May lead project segments and take responsibility for achievement of schedule and technical performance. Interface directly with (internal/external) customers to provide suggestions/support to ensure design compliance with requirements as well as support hardware in the field.

Typical day can include writing software or designing schematics in the office, or testing and integrating hardware in the lab. The individual will also coordinate and work closely with other engineering and management disciplines on high-level design decisions. Work closely with staff to ensure on-time/-budget delivery of products. Individual should be capable of working with minimal supervision but understands required and available resources.

•BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or similar with a minimum of two (2) + years’ experience or Master’s Degree with Capstone project and/or lab experience or PhD candidate
Two (2)+ years of working experience in a combination of the following areas: 
•Designing digital hardware (FPGAs, micro-controllers, memory, ADCs, DSPs, etc.)
•Writing C for embedded micro-controllers and C for microprocessors
•Writing VHDL for state of the art FPGAs such as Altera or Xilinx
•Testing/integrating digital hardware, measure with digital analyzers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.
•U.S. Citizenship required must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information

•Experience developing/allocating hardware requirements to meet higher-level system goals
•Work within a multi-discipline engineering team to achieve program goals
•Familiar with common HW interfaces/data protocols (e.g. TCPIP, UDP, RS-422, USB, PCI, CAN)
•Signal processing using Analog to Digital (ADC) and Digital to Analog (DAC) components 
•Electric motors for actuators and positioners; amplifiers to drive such motors; position feedback
•Familiar with motion control or various automation devices; limit switches, encoders, resolvers, relays, etc.
•Experience interfacing with and parameters of RF components; switches, amplifiers, etc.
•Familiar with schematic entry tools (such as Altium Designer)
