Cobham Advanced Electronics Solutions EW & Integrated Solutions (EIS) Business Unit is seeking a Principal Digital Engineer specializing in Digital Architectures and Implementation to work on challenging programs in support of advanced electronic sub-systems for Radar, Electronic Warfare, and Missile applications in frequency ranges up to 40 GHz. This role will be integral in shaping our technical approach to increase digital content of our products across CAES. System interfaces are becoming digital data streams replacing RF or IF signals. The candidate will work within a group of digital and embedded software engineers, interfacing with cross-functional engineering teams and customers when appropriate. This position is based in Lansdale PA, or could be based in Exeter NH. This position is expected to travel up to 20% of the time.
The primary responsibilities of the position are to architect, simulate, design, develop, support implementation, and integration of digital functions and sub-systems into CAES’ products. The candidate will perform requirements specification, digital design, simulation, design validation, system integration, and transition to production. The candidate should have successfully implemented designs in fielded systems and developed test and integration plans.
•Digital Design from architecture and algorithms to hardware implementation for converting, conditioning, and processing RF waves into digital signals and information
•Defining technical direction and steering a team of highly skilled engineers with RF, analog, baseband, and system experience
•Conceive, develop, present, and internally sell a technology plan for digitization of RF signal chains
•Translate system performance specifications into hardware and software requirements
•Define functional architecture of signal path from RF front-end interface to digital domain, conduct trade-off studies, validate by analysis and simulation through equations and/or software tools, such as Matlab, Simulink, or equivalent
•Design, simulate, implement, and test RF front-end to digital electronics and potentially photonic equipment
•Define hardware implementation, select optimum components (ADCs, DACs, FPGAs, SoCs, DRFMs), and support board bring-up
•Design, analysis, and simulation of mixed signal and digital functions in firmware and software, such as appropriate Nyquist band sampling, filtering, digital conversion, FFT, signal recovery from noise, signal processing
•Stay abreast of related state-of-the-art hardware components and algorithms
•U.S. Citizenship required, must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
•Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related technical field
•8+ years of work experience encompassing a broad range of technical, multi-disciplinary responsibilities
•3+ years of related experience working with an engineering team including multiple disciplines
•5+ years of experience in the design, test, and troubleshooting of digital and mixed signal circuits
•5+ years of experience with digital hardware, software, signal processing algorithms, and simulation tools
•3+ years of leading analysis, design, and implementation of complex electronic subsystems
•3+ years of formulating complex plans and communicating progress, results, and issues to colleagues, managers, and customers
•PhD of Science
•Experience in high rate conversion of microwave signals for transmit and receive applications and related algorithms
•Experience with electronically steerable arrays (ESA), radar systems, or missile communication systems
•Experience in FPGA design and verification
