Cobham is seeking a Mechanical CAD Designer to develop state of the art microwave subsystems. Primary responsibilities will include the mechanical design of RF subsystems including the generation of detailed drawings, fixture designs, CCA Design, and the support of other mechanical related activities.

This is NOT an Engineering role.

  • Mechanical design of highly reliable microwave subsystems and assemblies utilizing 3D and 2D CAD software.
  • Works closely with mechanical engineers to complete design layouts and generate 2D fabrication drawings that includes dimensioning & tolerancing.
  • Generation of detailed module assembly drawings, thin film substrate masks and other manufacturing related documentation.
  • Design and modify PCBs/CCAs using PADS program.
  • Design of various fixtures and tools to support the assembly and testing of subsystems.
  • Works with internal machine shop to have prototypes and test fixtures created and/or modified.
  • Assists mechanical engineers with various other tasks including, but not limited to, the set up and assembly of fixtures and test set ups, part and drawing modifications, BOM and documentation related tasks such as preparing all documents for releases,
  • PowerPoint presentations of designs and design concepts.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Associates degree in Mechanical Design or Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design or Industrial Technology or related is required with at least 5 years relevant work experience in a similar role.
  • Experienced with 2D CAD software such as ACAD/Draftsight to create complex assemblies and the generation of 2D fabrication and assembly drawings. Also knowledge of 3D modeling software (preferably SolidWorks).
  • Good understanding of machine design and GD&T.
  • Candidate must have good communication skills to interact with various internal organizations and must be able to coordinate efforts and work closely with a wide variety of groups within the business.
  • US Citizenship is required and the ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD Security Clearance are required.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience designing CCAs with digital and RF content.Knowledge of, and experience using, PADS or similar CCA design software.
