Cobham is seeking a Director of Engineering at our Prescott Arizona location

 
 

The Director of Engineering plays a significant role in delivering the strategic vision of the business unit, identifying and maturing key systems and processes, and providing inspirational leadership for the site engineering team. The successful candidate will:

  • Be a member of the Executive Leadership Team for the site, and a key member of the Business Unit Engineering Leadership team.
  • Lead the site Engineering function in support of existing products and developing a robust, innovative portfolio of new products 
  • Support the development of the Business Unit strategic direction.
  • Translate the strategic direction of the Business Unit into tactical direction of the site engineering function.
  • Manage a matrixed Engineering team to work together to achieve objectives, including with BU resources located across multiple sites, geographies and time zones.
  • Provide inspirational, motivating leadership that optimizes the contribution of every team member

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engineering Leadership and Project Management in a complex avionics system, sub-system and component environment.
  • Good understanding of avionic, electrical and mechanical certification principles, regulatory requirements and compliance.
  • Good understanding of aircraft systems.
  • New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI) experience, preferably across multi-site organization.
  • Change Leadership – functional and business-wide.
  • Motivational, inter-personal, and team-building expertise. Ability to build support and effective coalitions at all levels with the organization.  Strong emotional intelligence is required.
  • Excellent communicator; ability to apply common sense understanding to deal with non-standard situations and multiple variables.
  • Self-managed with a customer-focused, confident, proactive attitude.
  • Ability to lead and manage multiple teams and projects simultaneously.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, “can-do” attitude.
  • Comfortable at the “hands-on” and strategic level
  • Strong technical report writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong technical leadership skills with a demonstrated track record of technical delivery and program execution.
  • Excellent Change Management and Project Management Skills.
  • Team oriented with proven advanced communication and influencing skills.
  • A demonstrated capability to work within, and adhere to, a defined set of organizational values.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering as a minimum
  • At least 15 years relevant experience in Aerospace
  • Excellent communicator; ability to apply common sense understanding to deal with non-standard situations and multiple variables
  • Experience with Change Management and Project Management
  • 5 years of Engineering Leadership and Project Management in a complex avionics system, sub-system and component environment
  • Prior experience managing a matrixed Engineering team to work together to achieve objectives, including with BU resources located across multiple sites, geographies and time zones.
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US. In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of avionic, electrical and mechanical certification principles, regulatory requirements and compliance.
  • Experience with FMS (Flight Management Systems) Complex avionic systems
  • Experience with software defined mission/tactical radios, on-board avionic computing platforms/servers, and/or Com/Nav designs
  • Understanding or experience of Software and / or Hardware and / or Systems and / or Mechanical development or architecture
  • Knowledge of DO-178 development, DO – 254 and DO 160 verification testing
