Systems Engineer, RF Systems


General Description:

The Systems Engineer for RF Systems is a subject matter expert that drives changes and implements solutions as a participant on a multi-disciplined team. The Systems Engineer utilizes system engineering design practices to design complex avionic RF/Radio systems. This position drives innovative solutions in project and product capabilities. The ideal candidate has an extensive working knowledge of Tactical Mission Radio systems, RF Systems, LMR, and/or military radios.   Strong architecture and RF systems engineering knowledge throughout the complete system life cycle is a prerequisite. The Systems Engineer must be able to influence team members from multiple disciplines; especially Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Verification & Validation, and Qualification, Product Management and Program Management.


Position located in Prescott, AZ.   Reports to the Systems Manager.


Key/Core Qualifications:

  • Proven ability develop new RF product designs and sustainment objectives

  • Experience with the following System level activities:

    • Developing System level architectures

    • Modeling

    • Translate/create customer/industry/market requirements to system level requirements

    • Allocate system level requirements into hardware and software requirements

    • FMEA and safety analysis

    • Timeline/latency analysis

    • Creation of Interface Control Documents

    • Perform trade studies

    • System level verification & verification

  • Encryption knowledge (AES, DES, NIST, etc)

  • Understanding of DO-186, APCO Project 25, TIA-102

  • Experience with the development of Land Mobile Radios (LMR), ARC radios, and/or other commercial/military radios.

  • Experience implementing waveforms

  • Experience with FCC requirements

  • Experience as a technical interface with customers

  • Experience with Bid/Proposal development (ROMs, RFI, RFP, etc)

  • Experience with Requirements Analysis and Documentation tools (e.g. DOORs, Jama, etc.)

  • Self-motivated, critical thinker with strong technical background

  • Ability to drive teams to meet schedules

  • BS EE or equivalent 

  • 8+ years of experience in avionics development


    Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):

  • Experience with DO-178 development, DO-254,  and DO-160 Qualification Testing

  • Experience with a standard commercial avionics development process

  • Experience with customer and/or FAA audits

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills Familiar with FAA requirements applicable to avionic installations, such as Technical Standard Orders, Supplemental Type Certificates, FARs, etc

  • Design experience with complex (commercial) avionics systems

  • Design experience Audio systems, LTE, and/or CNS designs

  • Understanding of Design-to-Cost and Design-for-Manufacturability

  • Able to interface with the business development team to support/create product line roadmaps

  • General Avionics or helicopter pilot experience

  • Knowledge of the following technologies/skills is a plus:

    • 3G/4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Codec, DSP, touch screen displays, IMA/MAU/Card file designs, and Military radio encryptions/waveforms and frequency hopping

  • Experience transitioning new products into the factory

  • Experience interfacing with the factory and a Repair & Overhaul organization to support sustaining products
