For the sixth consecutive occasion, Cobham's satcom systems will provide voice and data communication for Land Rover's upcoming expedition across five African countries
Copenhagen, Denmark – Cobham SATCOM’s EXPLORER terminals will be put to the test across some of the most challenging and remote terrains in Africa during this year’s Land Rover Experience KaZa tour. Cobham’s reliable and high-tech equipment will keep participants connected during the gruelling expedition, which stretches across Namibia, Botswana, Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe from 31 October to 13 November.
Running since 2000, the Land Rover Experience Tour was established to demonstrate the extreme durability of Land Rovers in the most inhospitable environments on the planet. This year’s route stretches from the Experience Center in Namibia to Kavango Zambezi National Park, which is the second largest nature reserve in the world. The route passes breathtaking wildlife and traverses challenging terrain that aims to test the cutting-edge design and engineering which makes Land Rover vehicles famous for their all-terrain capabilities - alongside the equipment and products of similarly capable sponsors.
“Cobham is an organisation that shares our passion for pioneering technology and stands shoulder to shoulder with us as we continue to push the boundaries of Land Rover durability,” said Lutz Rathmann, CEO, Land Rover Experience Germany. “By combining our organisations’ mutual hunger for innovation through the Land Rover Experience Tour, we believe the overall safety and enjoyment of the event will be enhanced for all those involved – whether in the vehicles themselves or following the action from home.”
Cobham’s EXPLORER satcom terminals are the perfect match for this year’s diverse route, providing the Land Rover team with reliable voice and data communications from virtually anywhere on land. The fleet has been equipped with a diverse communications suite, including the PRISM PTT+ solution, which will deliver uninterrupted beyond line-of-sight push-to-talk voice and data communication by seamlessly switching between satellite, 3G, LTE and Land Mobile Radio (LMR). Cobham’s EXPLORER 8100GX Drive-Away VSAT, featuring unique dynamic pointing correction technology that supports continuous connectivity in extreme weather conditions, will deliver high-speed broadband for journalists and the team during the tour.
“The Land Rover Experience Tour always pushes our technology to its limit, and we expect nothing less from this year’s tour - not least because it is the first to stretch across five African countries,” said Henrik Nørrelykke, VP Global Sales & Marketing, Land, Cobham SATCOM. “Each opportunity to participate in this tour offers the chance for us to test the quality of our technology under the most strenuous conditions, and through the opportunity we can continue to make improvements that will benefit organisations and individuals dependent on satcoms in the most remote and inaccessible areas of the world."
