Support contract won for Reaper MQ-9 RPAS

Cobham and General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc sign Reaper Remotely Piloted Aircraft maintenance contract

Basingstoke, UK: Cobham Special Mission today announced that it has signed a contract with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) for the provision of maintenance support for the Reaper Ground Control Station (GCS) located at RAF Waddington.

This contract expands Cobham's existing maintenance support operations to include critical defence capabilities currently supporting the Sentry Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition (ISTAR) aircraft at RAF Waddington and the Royal Navy's UK Military Flying Training System rear crew training aircraft at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose.

Darren Moncrieff, Vice President, Cobham Special Mission, said: "Cobham will be providing personnel to deliver maintenance for the GCS for the Royal Air Force's MQ-9 Reaper Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS). Technicians have completed both formal GA-ASI training and on-the-job-training in preparation for the contract commencement in June 2016."

Peter Nottage, Sector President, Cobham Aviation Services, commented: "Special Mission and GA-ASI have been working in partnership for more than 12 years to cover whole of life support requirements. This additional contract demonstrates our commitment to delivering value and applying our specialist capabilities in the Special Mission arena. We look forward to continuing to work with our partner to deliver these services."

The RAF is a leading user of the MQ-9 Reaper and currently operates a fleet of 10 to provide an all-weather, 24 hour-a day ISTAR capability, which is controlled by remote GCS.
