Cobham Aviation Services has extensive experience providing airborne surveillance operations using highly-modified aerial platforms.

We are entrusted with conducting and/or supporting airborne surveillance activities for governments and militaries in Australia, the United Kingdom, the Caribbean and Cyprus for national security, law enforcement, environment protection and emergency response operations.

Fixed wing surveillance

Every day for the last 20 years, we have provided the aerial surveillance operation for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service. This turnkey operation deploys highly-modified Dash 8 aircraft flying 3,000 missions each year. The aircraft utilised to perform these missions are integrated with the latest surveillance and communication technology, including electro optic/infrared turrets, search radars, mission management systems, network real time data systems, secure communications and satellite video links.

Rotary wing surveillance

In the Caribbean, we provide highly-modified AW139 helicopters, as well as pilots and full engineering support to the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard in support of surveillance activities. In Cyprus, we provide Bell 412 helicopters. These helicopters use an electro-optical or FLIR system for surveillance.

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Surveillance

We recognise the benefits that unmanned aerial systems (UAS) bring to airborne surveillance operations and have actively monitored unmanned systems developments with the US Military and the US Customs and Border Protection Service.

We have supported defence trials of unmanned systems in Australia, been involved in developments and trials with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) and are an active participant in the industry body the Australian Association for Unmanned Systems (AAUS).
