Cobham delivers improved efficiencies to FIFO contracts

Cobham Aviation Services has delivered new cost efficiencies which have contributed to the company winning several major new contracts to provide fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) services to new and existing clients.

Cobham's President, Peter Nottage said the new contracts demonstrated opportunities that exist in the closed charter aviation market for innovation, safety and a compelling value proposition.

"We have worked hard to ensure our customers realise the value in changing from traditional turbo-prop aircraft to faster more efficient jet aircraft - the only aircraft capable of operating on remote, gravel runways," Mr Nottage said.

"Our sustained success in the regional FIFO market is due to our focus on unique ways to deliver value for our clients, consistent and reliable customer service and strong relationships."

Mr Nottage said Cobham Aviation Services has worked hard to provide safe, cost effective, flexible and innovative services supporting top tier resource companies that operate in regional and remote areas across Australia.

An agreement to fly in and out of Meekatharra for Metals X, in support of its Central Murchison Gold Project, is a new contract for three years.

"We offer Metals X great flexibility with aircraft, starting with an 81-seat aircraft then progressing to a 99 seat aircraft as their project progresses."

The new Northern Star Resources contract will see mine site workers flown in and out of Jundee, in the goldfields region and the Plutonic mine, east of Meekatharra.

These sites have gravel runways and Cobham is introducing its second 82 seat RJ-85 jet, equipped with the unique gravel kit capability, to provide these services. Cobham is the only aviation provider in Australia that operates jet aircraft to gravel runways.

A third contract with long-term client Minara Resources will see the five-year extension of Cobham Aviation Services flights in and out of Murrin Murrin, in the north eastern goldfields.

Mr Nottage said Minara Resources was a long term client upgrading to a larger jet aircraft which will result in an increased number of personnel being able to travel to and from site.

"We're proud to have supported Minara for the past 15 years and delighted to continue supporting them into the future."
