Eaton Mission Systems formerly Cobham Mission Systems is seeking an Advanced Machining Manager I for their Orchard Park, NY location. The ideal candidate will provide day to day leadership of the Cobham OP Model Shop to ensure maximum utilization of both shop personnel and equipment with the goal of providing timely delivery of quality products to internal customer requests. Manages shop scheduling and prioritization.

 

Key Responsiblities:

  • Provides day to day leadership of the Cobham OP Model Shop to ensure maximum utilization of both shop personnel and equipment with the goal of providing timely delivery of quality products to internal customer requests. Manages shop scheduling and prioritization.
  • Establish, monitor and drive activities using model shop metrics/KPI’s
  • Reviews and provides feedback to design engineering team on new designs to ensure manufacturability is considered before final drawing release.
  • Leads continuous improvement activities targeted to improve agility, lower costs and improve quality including use of Model Based Design (MBD) techniques.
  • Recommends necessary capital investments for the model shop to facilitate satisfying the goals above (i.e agility, quality, cost, etc.).
  • Monitors usage of expense items (ex. Cutting tools, fasteners, tooling, etc.) and places purchase requests as needed.
  • Implements necessary development plans for model shop personnel to advance their skills and to facilitate their ability to add more value to the company.
  • Manages material stores for model shop so that necessary raw materials are available to support part machining.
  • Provides cost estimation for machined parts to support bid and proposal efforts.
  • Support development of department/ work center costing and associated overhead rates.
  • Serve as a Technical Manufacturing Consultant with respect to DFMA to support decisions on part combinations and atypical geometries.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, excellent leadership and a demonstrated ability to work with all levels of the organization.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree preferably in a technical field.
  • 10+ years’ experience operating both manual and CNC metal machining equipment to produce tight tolerance aerospace parts
  • 10+ years’ experience in direct management of people in a machine shop environment.
  • 10+ years’ experience with reading and interpreting technical drawings.
  • 10+ years’ experience operating SolidWorks CAD software
  • 10+ years’ experience operating MasterCAM toolpath generation software.
  • 2+ years’ experience presenting data to peers, management and senior management.
  • Must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Experience with advanced Excel tools: Pivot Tables, vLookup, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using business operating systems: SAP, ORACLE, or other
  • Preferred Six Sigma techniques, Root-Cause-Problem-Solving.
  • Experience with cost estimating of machined parts.
