Eaton Mission Systems formerly Cobham Mission systems is seeking a Tool Designer-Drafter I for their Orchard Park, New York facility. They will be responsible for producing detailed models and designs, deploying a combination of technical capability, engineering knowledge and operational/manufacturing understanding as a basis for supporting the Tooling and Equipment needs of the site.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Design and develop simple to moderately technical tooling and fixtures, utilizing the CMS-OP provided Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, to be used in the manufacturing and assembly of products assembled within the CMS-OP organization
  • Conduct and document analysis on designed tool and fixture parts and assemblies, IAW company, Industry, and Engineering Standards, to verify that they sufficient in strength and operation to fulfill their intended use and will be safe under all conditions of use.
  • Produce fully defined technical drawings using company provided computer-aided design/drafting (CAD) software.
  • Source Materials, Parts, and Fabrication Services required to support Tooling production.
  • Interface with suppliers of tool and fixture parts to support on time delivery of sourced components.
  • Inspect and verify that received tool and fixture parts meet all requirements of the drawing with respect to dimensions, finishes, and function.
  • Complete Assembly, Testing, Validation and Identification, as necessary, of delivered tooling.
  • Facilitate Tool Revision / Rework along with maintaining Configuration Control IAW company standards
  • Develop supporting technical documentation such as datasheets and interface control documents.
  • Provide accurate status reports to Manufacturing Engineering and others as required.
  • Participate in design/schedule reviews with senior team members and Manufacturing and Design Engineers as necessary.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Technical Associate’s degree in Engineering or CAD
  • Proficiency with Computer Aided Design – CAD (Solid Work preferred)
  • 2 years’ Experience in product design/development of new technologies
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Skilled in Project and Time Management


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of Material Properties, Application of DFMA principals
  • Computer Skills, ERP, Excel, Outlook
  • Advanced Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software
  • Experience assembling and testing mechanical assemblies
  • Skills in Designing Tooling and/or Fixturing for hand assembly production environments
  • Experience Designing Tooling and/or Fixturing for automated production environments Maintain and Develop Technical Skills and Qualifications
  • Communication and Presentation of Engineering Information
