Cobham Antennas Systems has a requirement for a Buyer. The role of the Buyer is to ensure the effective procurement of materials, components, major work packages and services for the Antennas Business Unit. To coordinate the procurement activities for designated Commodities or for a group of Value Streams within the Antennas Business Unit.

Our technology
At Cobham Antennas, we design and manufacture active and passive avionics antennas and electronic control systems for military and civil communications, navigation and search and rescue applications.  We pioneered frequency agile VHF tuneable antennas and continue to be a key supplier to major avionics companies.  Our GPS anti-jam technology utilises state of the art DSP algorithms with an active antenna to eliminate both narrow-band and wide-band jamming signals.  We have world leading technology in Ground Penetrating Radar and RF interference mitigation. Both military and civil users rely on our direction finding systems for search and rescue operations. 

As a Buyer your skills and qualifications will ideally include: 

    • 5 years of experience working in a supply chain organisation.  Previous experience as a buyer within a technology company is an advantage.
    • Ideally Experience with mouldings and mechanical buying activities.
    • A degree in business, operations, supply chain, or related field.
    • Experiencing of influencing and/or negotiating.
    • Experience of supplier relationship management.
    • Technical knowledge of the commodities being managed.
    • Ability to work to financial and time-sensitive constraints.
    • Certification in Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) and/or Certified in Production and Inventory Management.
    • APICS certification is desirable.

As a Buyer your main responsibilities will involve: 

    • Manage the end-to-end supply chain relationship with a specified group of vendors so as to ensure the best possible quality, cost, delivery and overall supplier reliability for the Business Unit.
    • Negotiate and issue purchase orders directed by purchase requisition from planner or MRP action message and in accordance with planned inventory strategies.
    • Review MRP requirements to ensure component deliveries are scheduled in line with production requirements; reviewing and issuing purchase orders and making necessary changes to requirements, schedule and price. 
    • Analyse and process supplier notifications.
    • Manage the communication of and expedition of all engineering changes and schedule changes.
    • Be the data owner for all supply master data.
    • Monitor the delivery status of scheduled receipts to ensure on time delivery to need.
    • Apply SOF principles to build and manage effective supplier management processes and strong supplier relationships and partnerships.
    • Research vendors and develop new and alternative sources of supply where vendors and preferred suppliers are inadequate.
    • Create and maintain market profiles for relevant commodities and supplier profiles for all suppliers they are responsible for.
    • Continually monitor, evaluate and report on the performance of suppliers.
    • Ensure timely disposition and return of any non-conforming supplier material ensuring rapid replenishment to support production need.
    • Manage day to day procurement activities including internal and vendor communications; negotiating price changes with vendors, negotiating revised terms and special arrangements with vendors.
      Deploy responsible supply chain management practices in accordance with Company policy including a heat map and any required corrective actions.
