Cobham Aviation Service has an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join our business. The Commercial Manager will have Particular experience with Product / complex technology based contracts and is a member of the Cobham Special Mission (CSM) team; the role focuses on helping CSM to secure new business opportunities in compliance with Cobham’s policies as well as providing effective Commercial and Contracts support to the management and delivery of existing contracts.

Its capabilities include aerial surveillance, operational readiness training, aircraft modification and integration, search and rescue, and environment surveillance and response.
 
Cobham Special Mission uses highly customised aircraft to conduct border protection and surveillance operations in Australia and the UK, as well as providing operational readiness training through electronic warfare training for the UK Ministry of Defence.

As a Commercial Manager your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • A Degree calibre or equivalent relevant experience
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Particular experience with Product / complex technology based contracts
  • Experience with UK MoD contractual requirements desirable
  • Experience with negotiating and advising on both simple and complex commercial contracts
  • Experience with preparing tender documentation
  • Experience with managing disputes (desirable).
  • Proven relevant experience gained in a commercial discipline in a high tech industry, ideally within the aerospace/defence/manufacturing sector (desirable).

As a Commercial Manager your responsibilities will include: 

  • Safety first. Operate at Special Mission in accordance with the SHE standards. Identify where the SHE Standards are applicable to appointed operations/tasks and apply safe systems of work identified.
  • Apply countermeasures identified in applicable risk assessment to appointed operations/tasks.
  • Analysing potential business opportunities and preparing responses to bids.
  • Supporting internal Phase Reviews / Approvals of existing contracts and new opportunities and ensuring that all required approvals are obtained prior to entering into a contract.
  • Provide Commercial & Contracts support to the assessment of the risk and reward balance of each opportunity and to ensure that proposals / contracts are appropriately bound in line with the approvals obtained.
  • Preparing tender documentation and contract documents / agreements in line with approved positions.
  • Providing and presenting timely, reliable and accurate advice to business unit stakeholders regarding CSM’ contractual obligations, Cobham’s Contracts Policy and Cobham’s Corporate Framework and developing innovative commercial solutions to maximize compliance with the customers’ requirements whilst also ensuring compliance with internal company requirements and policies.
  • Drafting and negotiating agreements with customers, suppliers and lessors whilst ensuring compliance with Cobham’s policies, insurance requirements; confidentiality requirements; and ‘flow down’ requirements from customer contracts
  • Work closely with the Sub-Contract Management resources to ensure the best possible flow down of front-end obligations and requirements, into the associated Sub-Contracts and Supply Agreements. Where required, work to support the Sub-Contract Management resources to achieve Value for Money in the Sub-Contract and Supply Agreements.
  • Work closely with SME Stakeholders to advise on the applicable contract requirements and to understand the proposed solution and the full extent of compliance with the customer’s requirements. 
  • Assisting with the management of insurance requirements including updating CAvS’ insurers on CAvS’ business activities and assisting with annual insurance renewals.
  • Identifying and addressing contract changes, and settling all liability issues affecting operations, as they arise.
  • Any other duties that are reasonably requested by management within the capacity and capability of the incumbent.
