Cobham Antenna Systems are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to cover Continuous Improvement within their Antennas business. The position is to drive continuous improvement into the manufacturing value streams through a combination of problem solving, supported investment and product introduction.
Based in Marlow
 
Our technology
At Cobham Antenna Systems, we design and manufacture active and passive avionics antennas and electronic control systems for military and civil communications, navigation and search and rescue applications.  We pioneered frequency agile VHF tuneable antennas and continue to be a key supplier to major avionics companies.  Our GPS anti-jam technology utilises state of the art DSP algorithms with an active antenna to eliminate both narrow-band and wide-band jamming signals.  We have world leading technology in Ground Penetrating Radar and RF interference mitigation. Both military and civil users rely on our direction finding systems for search and rescue operations.
 

As a Manufacturing Engineer-Continuous Improvement your skills and qualifications will ideally include: 

    • Awareness of Aerospace manufacturing requirements and processes.
    • Good problem solving skills, Green Belt would be advantageous but is not necessary.
    • Good project management skills and the ability to handle multiple calls on your time.
    • Ability to influence people and communicate progress / issues.
    • General Manufacturing / Mechanical skils such as reading drawings, raising investigation reports, interpreting specifications, etc.
    • Computer literate and ability to use Microsoft Tools essential, SysPro and SinglePoint useful but can be trained.
    • Awareness of the APQP and DfSS tool sets would be useful but are not essential.
      Key Measures and Milestones
    • Achievement of annual KPI targets for Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Lead-Time,  and their respective leading measures

As a Manufacturing Engineer your main responsibilities will involve: 

  • Managing the NPI process from a Operations perspective. Developing cost models, develop the Operation’s Plan, run risk reduction reviews, etc.
    Working with Engineering to understand which features drive product performance and develop approaches to control them.
  • Developing and implementing manufacturing requirements into the standard NPI framework so that a ‘Design for Manufacture’ approach is further built into our processes.
  • Managing a small manufacturing development cell which builds initial development parts and some  legacy products.
  • Reviewing where we can use New Part Intorduction to change some of the methods of manufacturing within Marlow, where appropriate, Reviewing how we develop and standardise manufacturing approaches for new and exciting products.
  • Developing process proposals to reduce process complexity and improve standardisation.
  • Supporting the on-going development of the business in terms of improving efficiencies and reducing lead times by:
    Developing investment proposals to improve Operational Performance (e.g. capital).
    Defining and managing the local revenue budgets.
    Developing proposals to reduce process complexity and improve standardisation.
  • Working with other functions to improve the Operational Effectiveness of the Manufacturing Cells in terms of Safety, Quality, Lead-Time, Cost and People Development.
  • Supporting the development of Apprentices, graduates and other people assigned to the Manufacturing Engineering function.
