Cobham is seeking a Aerospace Senior Safety Engineer. This position is located Davenport, IA.
The Senior Safety Engineer is responsible for the support of development and validation of safety analyses (including development of safety requirements), and providing support to system safety implementation and verification activities for programs and products within the Air Refueling and Life Support product lines seeking to achieve FAA (FAR), Air Worthiness certification or other industry safety certifications as required. The areas of responsibility encompass all phases of product life-cycle, from conceptual, through detailed design, implementation, integration, test, certification and fielding.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform system safety activities consistent with customer quality, cost and schedule requirements.
  • Prepare SAE ARP-4754A, SAE ARP-4761, RTCA DO-178C, and RTCA DO-254 recommended safety documentation.
  • Perform activities such as risk analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Common Cause Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and Failure Modes and Effects Summary.
  • Participate in system engineering safety requirements analysis, system architecture development, performance analysis, definition of system and subsystem safety requirements, and development of test plans and procedures to verify safety aspects of the system at all levels.
  • Evaluates product safety processes and procedures, makes recommendations for improvement and compliance with industry product safety standards to include DoD requirements for Critical Safety Items.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% for customer and end user interchange meetings.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, etc.) or related technical field from an ABET accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of experience in the aerospace (or related) industry.
  • Experience in application of system engineering processes related to safety analysis of complex aircraft components and systems.
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US.  In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with FAA certification, Air Worthiness (MIL-HDBK-516), and/or flight safety analyses.
  • Experience applying safety processes to commercial airborne avionics systems and/or other defense electronics systems.
  • Experience with the IBM Rational DOORS requirements management tool is a plus.
  • Experience with Windchill Reliability (formerly Relex) is a plus.
  • Experience with EAR and ITAR rules is a plus.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and other computer-based tools to support system engineering and briefing/proposal development activities.
