Launch Customer Selects New Air Separation Module For 737NG

The team at Cobham has secured an unnamed launch customer for its new, high performance and long-life Air Separation Module (ASM) for 737 Next Generation (NG) commercial airlines.

Davenport, Iowa: The team at Cobham has secured an unnamed launch customer for its new, high performance and long-life Air Separation Module (ASM) for 737 Next Generation (NG) commercial airlines.

The ASM uses hollow fiber membranes to generate nitrogen to inert - or render safe from fire - aircraft fuel tanks by creating an atmosphere where fires cannot exist due to insufficient oxygen. The team at Cobham Mission Systems will supply the product directly to commercial airline customers, starting with its unnamed launch customer. Cobham's 737 ASM will provide more than $1.5M of cost savings for a fleet of ten aircraft during a decade of operation.

Work will be performed by the Cobham Mission Systems site in Davenport, Iowa, with deliveries commencing late 2015. Selection by this launch customer reflects the unrivalled experience of the Cobham team in the design, development, and delivery of nitrogen generation systems for a wide range of commercial & military aviation applications. The team at Cobham Mission Systems offers an expansive range of fuel tank inerting products, and has to date delivered systems for more than 3,200 military and commercial aircraft around the world.

At the signing of the agreement, Dean Cantrill, Vice President & General Manager of Cobham Mission Systems said: "Cobham Mission Systems is delighted this launch customer selected our product to provide the benefits our products are known for world-wide. This is an important milestone in our technology development to provide optimal solutions for our customers."
