The Sir Alan Cobham Award
Inspired by the pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit of Cobham’s founder, the biennial Sir Alan Cobham Award Programme was launched in 2009 to recognise outstanding contributions by employees worldwide.
The Award Programme is a merit based system spanning Cobham’s business and fully endorsed by the Chief Executive Officer.
It offers meaningful prizes, from prize certificates for Bronze level winner, through paid leave to a cash prize of up to £10,000 (approximately US$16,000) for each Platinum winner.
Any permanent Cobham employee can nominate any other Cobham employee in any of five categories – Technical Innovation, Customer Satisfaction, Employee Engagement, Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, and Teamwork.
The programme received 172 nominations in its first year, with awards presented to 139 nominations involving 500 employees.

Award winning efforts in 2009 included:
- Exploiting a new technology to create major improvements in production of high purity oxygen;
- Creating and sustaining a cleaner, more organised industrial work area;
- Outstanding teamwork during development of a revolutionary new anti-jam GPS antenna;
- Reducing energy use and carbon emissions; and
- Effective repair of a military customer's heavily damaged high-value aircraft.
