International Workboat Show 2015, New Orleans - Cobham SATCOM partner CMC Electronics Inc. has recently completed the installation of a comprehensive SAILOR 6000 GMDSS package on the MV Dual Venture, a new 100ft Herring Seiner built at the Chantier Naval Forillon yard in Gaspe, Quebec.

Cobham SATCOM's innovative touch screen GMDSS technology can be found on its International Workboat Show booth (#3533) this week.

MV Dual Venture is the first new Steel Herring Seiner built for operations in Nova Scotia in the 21st century. It features a state-of-the-art bridge, including innovative SAILOR 6004 Control Panels and a sea area A3 SAILOR 6000 GMDSS installation, which includes: 2 x SAILOR 6110 GMDSS mini-C, 2 x SAILOR 6222 VHF GMDSS, 2 x SAILOR 6300 MF/HF GMDSS and 3 x SAILOR SP3500 Portable VHF GMDSS Portable.

"The wheelhouse is an extremely clean, modern design so the SAILOR equipment matches very well with all the new, up to date equipment we have on board," said Malcolm d'Eon, Skipper of the MV Dual Venture. "The touchscreens are a nice fit. The system is mainly used for safety alerting so thankfully we haven't had the need to use it much to date, but the whole system is very simple to use and touch screen operation works well."

The SAILOR 6000 GMDSS Series is a flexible networked GMDSS solution for vessels in all sea areas. It features all mandated VHF, MF/HF, mini-C and accessories with a touch-screen interface combined in tough, easy to install consoles. The system is the first to provide specifically designed triple GMDSS, SSAS and LRIT functionality via the SAILOR 6110 mini-C.

"The SAILOR 6000 GMDSS package was installed as part of a wider delivery of bridge equipment for MV Dual Venture," said Brian Sibley, Commercial Product Sales & Support, CMC Electronics. "The networking aspects of the system makes for easy integration and installation whilst its reliability and ease of use via the touch screen control panel ensures skippers and crew can count on it to support their safety in any conditions."
