Pyrovalves are critical for engine chilldown in launch vehicle propulsion systems. They operate when a firing current is received to either open or close the valve. The initiator ignites a booster charge located within the valve body, driving a fit cutter downward to either open or close the flow path. y closed, when the interference fit cutter is driven downward, it shears and removes a parent metal fitting thus opening the flow path.
