Pressure Technology Solutions
Cobham’s line of composite structures for space, marine, aircraft, and life support applications are the lightest and most compact in the industry today. With a commitment to providing the safest, highest quality, competitively priced composite pressure vessels in the industry, Cobham’s engineering and manufacturing organization, in Westminster, achieved a world first in designing the first composite vessel to pass the 50 caliber gun fire test without shattering.
From initial concept, to engineering design and qualification, and finally long-term production, Cobham develops custom solutions for its customers. Carbon fiber, full composite cylinder and valve assemblies, using lightweight carbon fiber wrapped over spun aluminum liner to offer a significant weight saving over conventional steel tanks, are integral components on passenger aircrafts’ emergency oxygen systems. The lightweight composite cylinder and valve assemblies have been qualified to numerous aircraft including Boeing.
The carbon-aluminum and fiberglass-aluminum DOT-CFCC and DOT-FRP-1 cylinders are used for liferaft inflation, escape slide deployment, power for emergency rescue pneumatic tools, and in the storage and delivery of gas for general commercial, industrial, and medical processes.
