Actuation Systems

Cobham is a provider of world-class pneumatic actuation systems designed to meet the most demanding and extreme environments.  Cobham products can be found on a variety of applications around the world including military and commercial aircraft, helicopters, missiles and pneumatic weapons carriages.

Cobham provides a wide range of emergency equipment including emergency inflation valves which are used to inflate emergency flotation devices, such as rafts and emergency evacuation slides on large commercial aircraft and helicopters and landing gear blowdown systems which are used to unlock, lower and relock the main landing gear structure in the down position in the event of failure of the main hydraulic extension system.

Cobham’s pneumatic power modules provide an energy source for pneumatic weapon racks to unlock and eject the weapon.  Once the weapon is away from the aircraft, Cobham’s Pneumatic Wing & Tail Actuators, which can provide up to 15,000 lbs. of pneumatic pressure, rapidly deploy the wings and tail fin into their full open position for flight in as little as 6/10 of a second.  Cobham also manufacturers a pneumatic canard fin control actuation system on GBU -10/12/16 weapons.  This system controls the movement of the fins on smart weapons which allows the weapon to adjust position in flight and track to the target.

The waveguide pressurization system is designed to inert a traveling waveguide or radome with dry nitrogen gas to prevent electrical arcing at low altitudes, and has applications on multiple types of aircraft.
