Aviation Platform Modification and Fleet Embodiment

A combination of skills, experience and extensive facilities enables Cobham to undertake the modification of land, sea and air platforms for both systems upgrades and new role adaptation. This capability includes the manufacture of kits and their installation and/or integration at Cobham facilities or the Customer's preferred site.

Total flexibility allows Cobham's Aircraft Modification and Integration department to tackle everything from one-off projects to extensive fleet embodiment programmes, providing unbiased advice that is independent of any particular aircraft manufacturer or equipment supplier . At 53,600 square footage, Cobham's "Hangar One" facility alone provides enormous scope to consider most aircraft in civil or military use.

Cobham's expertise is expanding into the field of rotary wing aircraft, especially in the military arena. The 'one stop shop' capability to design, integrate, manufacture, install and certify has recently offered significant Urgent Operational Requirement and general modification programme support to a range of military rotary wing project teams. A speciality of Cobham's is the integration of high-tech avionic solutions into complex air platforms. Expertise in this area includes the installation and integration of surveillance equipment, such as EO/IR turrets and search radars, as well as a wide range of communication, navigation and instrumentation equipment. All new mandatory requirements such as CVR, FDR and ADS-B can be met utilising Cobham's wide range of direct factory dealerships with the major avionic manufacturers worldwide.

Notable undertakings have been the conversion of a civil DC10 airliner into an experimental AAR tanker role for a private customer, the bi-annual maintenance on RAFOs fleet of BAES 1-11 aircraft, major repairs to, and servicing on, BAES 146 aircraft being returned off-lease to the OEM, avionics modifications to corporate VIP aircraft, and a major structural modification to a military registered 1-11 aircraft engaged in special trials work.
