Material Properties Testing

 

Cobham Sensor Systems has extensive capability to characterize materials from a mechanical and electrical standpoint. Cobham's material testing consists of mechanical, temperature, humidity conditioning, and electrical characterization.

 

Mechanical Testing - Instron Model 3364:

  1. 35 kip max load capacity (150 kN)
  2. Tension and Compression motion
  3. Capable of supporting most applicable ASTM testing
  4. Capability of testing from -150°F to 400°F
  5. Capable of testing limited fatigue cycling (3 to 4 cycles per minute)

 

High/Low Temperature Mechanical Testing Chamber:

  1. Temperature capability of down to -240°F and up to 660°F
  2. Capable of supporting Tension, Compression, and most Flexure testing
  3. Liquid Nitrogen cooled
  4. Temperature controlled to ±6°F or better

 

Humidity Conditioning - Tenney Temperature/Humidity Chamber:

  1. 85°C (185°F) and 98% RH capable
  2. 200°C (392°F) with no humidity
  3. 20 cubic feet of interior space
  4. ETW Coupons are removed from chamber once saturation is achieved & tested within 1 hour timeframe

 

Material Electrical Property Testing - Damaskos Model 600T Open Resonator:

  1. Dielectric Constant & Loss Tangent testing of low loss composite materials
  2. Testing from 8 to 50 GHz
  3. Sample size 6 inches square
  4. Ambient temperature testing
    1. Room Temperature Dry (RTD) Testing
    2. Room Temperature Wet (RTW) Testing
