Mechanical Design
Our mechanical design group plays an important role in the development phase of the radomes and antennas fabricated at Sensor Systems. Working in close coordination with the electrical and composite engineers, the mechanical engineering group addresses issues such as structural integrity, tolerance stack-up, dissimilar material interfaces and machining abilities.
Sensor Systems mechanical engineers generate and use 3D and 2D design packages such as SolidWorks and CATIA. The mechanical engineer then use Nastran or hand calculations to analyze for structural ability based on specifications provided by our customers. Changes are incorporated as required by the design team and then the drawing file is sent to operations where the product can be fabricated using a 5-axis CNC machine. The electronic file is also sent to quality control where the finished part is inspected to the electronic file using a FaroArm®.
