GMS at the 2004 Summer Olympic games, Athens, Greece GMS is proud of its long term history of providing equipment and support for the Summer Olympic Games including the 1992, 1996, 2000, and now the recent 2004 Summer Olympic in Athens. As a leader in broadcast microwave communications, GMS was called upon to manufacture equipment for the security officials as well as the TV broadcasters. GMS’ high power analog FM links were used on surveillance air-ships and helicopters. GMS in partnership with system integrators like “Navtech Systems Ltd” has been able to provide full airborne microwave systems including GPS auto-tracking receive antennas. GMS microwave video equipment is typically used in applications such as marathons, where great distances and mobility requirements make hard-wired cameras impractical. Camera signals are sent from a chase motorcycle via microwave to a repeater above in an orbiting helicopter. The helicopter equipment receives and simultaneously retransmits the video signal to a centrally located receive site for connection to the broadcast production center. With the proper application of microwave technology, a number of such systems may be operating at the same time to bring the viewer at home the excitement of the competition from a variety of angles.
Quality and reliability are vital for success in providing Olympic competition coverage. GMS microwave equipment is the best choice for your station's field production needs. GMS application engineers will help you design a system that meets your demanding requirements.
