Communication Systems Applications Engineer

 

Responsibilities:

A.

Responsible for providing both Pre-Sales support on all Cobham Surveillance (GMS Products) products.

This includes but is not limited to:
1.Answering customer’s technical questions on Cobham Surveillance (GMS Products) products and their applications.
2.Developing system-level solutions in support of customer specific requirements with Cobham Surveillance (GMS Products) products.
3.Developing formal and in-formal written proposals including block diagrams, system functional descriptions, link analysis and cost analysis.
4.Supporting and performing product demonstrations both at customer’s facility and at Cobham Surveillance (GMS Products)' facility.
5.
Trade show support on all levels including planning, preparation, set-up, tear-down and booth support with direct customer interaction.
6.
Through emailed memorandums, notifying other departments of sales and customer support activities, correspondence, issues.

B.Responsible for Post-Sale support including solving any customer problems with existing system-level products.
This includes but is not limited to:

1.Provide technical support on fielded systems that may include on-site support.
2.Performing the necessary analyses, tests, and other troubleshooting procedures to identify the cause and solution of problems with existing products which are identified.
3.Through emailed memorandums, notifying other departments of product problems and any interim procedures which should be followed until the problem is resolved.

4.

Writing and presenting an Engineering Change Order (ECO) when you have determined the solution to the problem to Cobham Surveillance (GMS Products)' Configuration Control department.


C.

Under management’s guidance design, develop document and release new system-level products. These system-level products shall contain a majority of Cobham Surveillance (GMS Products) products and some amount of modules and sub-systems from other companies. The purpose of these systems is to increase Cobham Surveillance (GMS Products)' sales and marketing opportunities.
This includes, but is not limited to:

1.Identify potential system applications and presenting them to management.
2.Identify and refine potential system features, functions, and capabilities.
3.

Complete system development project responsibility:

1.
Preliminary design including sub-system requirements definition and selection.
2.
Estimate cost and detailed schedule based on design input criteria.
3.
Generate complete product specifications.
4.
Report status weekly to management.
5.
Request/chair design reviews at appropriate stages and supply necessary decision data.
6.
Perform/ coordinate detailed design with project team.
7.
Develop and check release documentation.
8.

Work with Production to ensure the successful transition of these new products from the Design Engineering department to Production, as well as assist technically in debugging major product problems.


General Functions:
1.

Maintain an in-depth technical knowledge of all Cobham Surveillance (GMS Products) products.

2.Provide technical direction for all development projects and help ensure that all projects are properly planned and then remain on schedule.
3.Maintain a working knowledge of all company policies and procedures, and proficiency on all computer programs and operating systems.
4.Actively maintain a working knowledge of all Cobham Surveillance (GMS Products) markets and products, read appropriate technical journals, and keep abreast of feedback from key accounts.
5.Work with vendors to stay abreast of newest available electronics components.

 

Requirements:

1.B.S.E.E. or Equivalent.
2.Minimum 5 years of specifying, designing, building and installing wireless communication systems.
3.Minimum 5 years of direct customer interaction either in application engineering, customer service or sales.
4.Good working knowledge of antennas, RF, link analysis, IBM PC hardware and software.
5.Knowledge of computer networks desired.
6.
Ability and desire to interact with customers and portray a positive and professional image of Cobham Surveillance (GMS Products).
7.

Ability to work independently or in small groups.

8.
Ability to write proposals and correspondence for both internal and external customers.
9.
Working knowledge of the development and interpretation of engineering drawing and test procedures.
