About us
Cobham Antenna Systems was established in 1947 as Chelton (Electrostatics) Ltd. to respond to the market need for airborne radio communications. In 1989, Chelton (Electrostatics) Ltd became a wholly owned subsidiary of Cobham plc - a highly respected UK aerospace group with a history of excellence now dating back over 75 years.
The first products produced were aircraft electrostatic dischargers and HF wire antenna systems. Throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s, the company grew in international prominence by introducing an ever-increasing product range of airborne communications and navigation antennas. By the early 1980s the company had become a significant supplier of airborne homing systems - principally for Search and Rescue use. The product portfolio was expanded and became the World's first and leading range of electronically tuned VHF/UHF airborne communication antennas. Further product additions included VHF and UHF transceivers and land antennas.
Cobham Antenna Systems now holds the world leading position in the supply of a range of antennas, antenna subsystems, direction finders and other electronic subsystems for communications and navigation in airborne and land applications.
