About us

Cobham Antenna Systems (formerly Chelton Ltd) was established in 1947 to respond to the market for better airborne radio communications.

The first products produced were aircraft static dischargers and H.F. (2-30MHz) wire antenna systems.

Throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s, Chelton grew in international prominence by introducing an ever-increasing product range of airborne communications and navigation antennas. By the early 1980s the company had become a significant supplier of airborne homing systems - principally for Search and Rescue use. The product portfolio was expanded and became the World's first and leading range of electronically tuned VHF/UHF airborne communication antennas.

In 1989, Chelton (Electrostatics) Ltd and its holding company, Chelton Ltd became a wholly owned subsidiary of Cobham plc - a highly respected UK aerospace group with a history of excellence dating back over 75 years.
