Typical microwave system design projects range from the development of a portable Ku band satcom terminal to a low-profile antenna system for airborne and terrestrial applications. In the majority of cases there is strong emphasis on both design for manufacture together with low-manufacturing cost.

Compact spread-spectrum Ku-band satcom terminal
Cobham Technical Services has also designed a compact spread-spectrum satcom terminal demonstrator operating at Ku-band. The key features of this unit are the low-profile flat panel array antenna with integrated electronics and an efficient high-power amplifier together with battery saving techniques in the electronics to minimise the overall power consumption. This demonstrator, which is about the size of a standard laptop computer, was developed in a short time frame for successful proof of concept trials.
Ku-band satcom up/downlink conversion system
Cobham Technical Services is currently designing a Ku-band up/down-conversion system for use with a low-profile antenna system for airborne and terrestrial applications.
L-band high performance low-noise amplifiers
Cobham Technical Services has developed a high-performance, low-noise amplifier and a high-power amplifier for a L-band remote active antenna. Strong emphasis was placed by the customer on low-cost and design for manufacture. A L-band power amplifier has also been developed for use in a point-to-point data link. This unit was designed for low-cost and high-efficiency and is in volume manufacture.
