Cobham Technical Services has carried out the development of a close-combat radio in collaboration with Cobham Defence Communications (CDC). The 'Eagle' radio is a third generation full-duplex networked product which provides short-range communications between dismounted troops and a direct interface with vehicle intercoms and other combat networked radio systems.
 | The radio operates in the licence-free 2.4 GHz band and incorporates novel ad-hoc networking protocols to allow the utmost flexibility in the setting up and management of groups and sub-groups within the network. Although primarily designed for voice communications, the system also allows situational awareness data to be shared across the network. The same technology can be also be exploited in other application areas such as first response forces, disaster recovery and homeland security. |
