Rotating and Linear Motion

CARMEN

Including rotational and linear motion extends transient electromagnetic field simulation to include the effects of rigid body motion.

Parts of the model are allowed to move independantly with speed, acceleration or position controlled by the designer. Coupling to mechanical systems equations is possible, including adding ordinary differential equations. The analysis is transient, with eddy currents induced in conducting media both through the effects of moving fields and time variation of sources. Sources can be current driven or voltage driven via external circuits. The simulation may also be connected to the system simulator, Simulink.

Linear, or nonlinear, permeable and conducting materials with isotropic or anisotropic properties may be specified. The simulator uses re-meshing techniques in specific air gap regions which connect the stationary and moving parts.
