SOPRANO

RF and Microwave simulation determines the distribution of electromagnetic fields when radiation effects are dominant. Two simulation modules support modelling either at user defined frequency or compute the modes of a structure from Eigenvalue analysis.

In modal simulations, conducting walls are treated as ideal conductors but surface current density distribution and wall losses, as well as Q factors, can be obtained in the Post Procesor. The Post Processor will also display the eigenvectors of the electric and magnetic fields associated with these resonant modes.

User defined frequency domain simulations model the full Helmholtz equation, allowing  lossy dielectric and magnetic materials (such as ferrites) to be included.

Applications

RF and Microwave simulation is primarily used for the design of a wide range of waveguide components and resonant devices, such as RF Cavities.  Radiating structures such as antennas may also be simulated using absorbing boundary conditions to model propagation to the far field.
