Arc sensors (arc detectors) are solid-state electro-optical devices which detect infrared and visible arcs in high power microwave waveguide. In addition to the optical sensor, the 8480 series also has a voltage trip port that can be connected to a diode detector monitoring reflected power.
The arc sensor normally mounts between the output flange of the microwave source and the waveguide transmission line in a swept 90-degree E-plane bend. Models are available in all standard waveguide sizes from WR-650 to WR-28. Our standard arc sensor includes a built in test lamp for checking the optical detector and the latching circuitry. Custom configurations are available.
