Lossy Dielectrics

Lossy dielectric simulation allows the electric field in applications containing semi-conducting dielectrics to be modelled. Both the two dimensional current flow and electric field equations are simultaneously solved to achieve this.

Simulations can be made in 3 regimes:

Static - DC current flow and static electric fileds

Steady state - Time harmonic AC current flow and electric fields

Transient - Quasi-static current flow and electric fields with arbitary, user defined, drive functions.

Quasi-static steady state AC and transient simulations require that inductive effects are negligable. In most power distribution and generation applications this is a valid assumption.
