Cobham Microwave selected by the European Space Agency to develop RF & Microwave Amplifiers and Mixers

Wednesday, June 28, 2006:12:27 PM

Cobham Microwave announces the design and manufacture of RF & Microwave Amplifiers and Mixers for space programmes. The contract is part of the European Component Initiative launched by the European Space Agency (ESA), which aims to develop and qualify several critical space components in order to improve the European space industry’s autonomy.

With the deployment of Galileo programme, it is essential that European suppliers demonstrate their ability to design and produce space quality level components such as hybrid cascadable amplifiers and double balanced mixers. Cobham Microwave has the required design and process expertise, resources and facilities to offer these products. Those components will subsequently be listed in the European Preferred Parts List. These new space level part types will become available around mid 2007.

The specifications are based on the following typical characteristics:

The Diodes and Modules Business Unit of Cobham Microwave is located in Les Ulis (south of Paris ), in France . The Business Unit is specialised in designing and manufacturing RF & Microwave components for Hi-Rel applications, such as silicon PIN diodes, varactors, MOS capacitors, and multi-functions sub-systems (diode limiters, switches, duplexers…). Cobham Microwave already holds ESCC qualifications and several products are listed in the European Preferred Parts List (EPPL).
